THE MULTIPLE DIMENSIONS OF THE WORLDWIDE CRISIS: GENERAL TENDENCIES

Resumo

This paper presents a synthetic overview of the broad themesthat have shaped the situation that followed the outbreak of theeconomic downturn, triggered in 2007 and finally consolidated in 2008.The center of the analysis rests on the peculiar characteristics of thepreponderance of the U.S., combined with tensions within the Americansociety and its effects on the international political economy. So, thearticle discusses: 1) the foundations of military U.S. international power,2) the symbiosis between U.S. military and financial power, which hasintensified since 1970, 3) the impact this had on the U.S. society and 4)the contradictions inherent to this model and its implications forinternational governance.
