The character was designed by French author Maurice Leblanc. During the televised Variation, Omar Sy stars as Assane Diop, a person who sets out to avenge his father for an injustice inflicted on him by a rich family members. For a teen, Assane's lifetime was turned upside-down when his father died just after currently being accused of against the law he didn’t commit and 25 many years later on, Assane will use "Arsène Lupin, Gentleman Burglar" as his inspiration to avenge his father. Starring alongside Sy are Hervé Pierre, Nicole Garcia, Clotilde Hesme, Ludivine Sagnier, Antoine Gouy, Shirine Boutella and Soufiane Guerrab.
